Know the Parts and Technical Terms For the Piano

The piano was first created on 1709 by Bartolomeo Cristofori. He carried out different mechanisms by means of putting a keyboard above the wooden casing of harpsichord. Through the years, the piano with a variety of types in function was designed and the sounds had been developed. In the 13th century, the modern piano was first created. Pianos have been broadly used melodic instrument because of its flexibility.

Before learning the piano, we must first be familiarized with the bodily parts of the piano, how to use it and the technical terms. Here are some of the important piano parts for the beginners:

The Keyboard - these are the parallel row of keys which were used by the performers in producing sounds and the music. These rows of keys were sheltered by foldable top which closes it over. The keyboard has a total of 99 keys; 56 white and 36 black.

The Keys - with the piano beginners, you have to know that the keys were the part that being pressed to produce a note. There are sets of white and black keys allied horizontally. In the past years, a black key was made of ebony and the white key was done by ivory. At these present days, because of the safety concern from the species producing ivory, the keys were now made from quality plastics.

Pedals - pianos were made with the corresponding three pedals located at the bottom. First pedal from the left is the Soft Pedal and sometimes identified as Una corda, this is utilized in shifting the keyboard a little to the right so it will modify the sound of a note to make it softer. Middle pedal or the Sustenuto only acts to those keys that are pushed by the pedal stepped into. Third and the last pedal or the Sustain Pedal was used mainly for removing the interruption that can cause the vibration while playing the piano.

Music Rack - this is for the keeping of piano paraphernalia such as manuals and music sheets, everything that is used in playing the piano most specially to the piano beginners.

Piano Bench - this is the position where we sit down as playing with the piano.

Technical terms to remember

Octave - this is what we call the interval of twelve keys created between the two notes with a similar musical value. Piano keyboards are made of seven octaves, that way; each one of the seven notes will materialize in every seven octaves of the keyboard.

Pitch - this is the characteristics of the note sounds, neither higher or the lower notes.

Basic position guidelines in playing the piano

Sitting and Standing - sitting is the commonly used position in playing the piano because it can give you the most effective level in controlling your hands and fingers. Standing is commonly used by the electronic keyboardist most especially for the rock bands.

Keyboard Height - you should always make sure of your keyboard height is not above the level of your elbows.
